Joint Common Missile Rides Again

In its first flight, JCM surpassed the maximum rotary-wing range of 16 kilometers--it went 17.3, with stable aerodynamics throughout.Army officials are gearing up to restructure the Joint Common Missile program after the Office of the Secretary of Defense released $60 million in fiscal year 2006 and 2007 funds for JCM development, according to a Redstone Arsenal spokesman.

“FY-06 and FY-07 JCM funds have been released,” Dan O’Boyle wrote in a brief statement sent to Inside the Army Oct. 20. “The joint attack munition systems project manager in the Program Executive Office for Missiles and Space, here, is prepared to initiate a restructured system development and demonstration effort accordingly.”

Pentagon Spokeswoman Cheryl Irwin, however, declined to comment on JCM funding and the status of the program.

“Everything at this point is pre-decisional and it would be inappropriate to discuss,” Irwin wrote in a Oct. 20 e-mail.
