Transfer of Dutch Frigate to Chile

Witte de With now Commandante PratIn Den Helder on Monday, 17 July a ceremony marked the transfer of the air-defence frigate HNMS Witte de With to Chile.

The Chilean minister of Defence, Vivianne Blanlot Soza, and Dutch State Secretary Cees van der Knaap were present. A Chilean Navy delegation, under the command of Admiral Rodolfo Codina Diaz, attended the ceremony.

After the hand-over, HNMS Witte de With was christened Commandante Prat.

The ship is the third of four frigates that the Ministry of Defence has transferred to Chile. In 2005, the Chilean Navy took over an air-defence frigate and an M-class multi-purpose frigate. The fourth and final ship will be transferred in April 2007.

The Royal Netherlands Navy has now disposed of its last air-defence frigate. Their missions have been taken over by the new LCF-class air-defence and command frigate.
