South Africa’s defence acquisition, dis-posal and research-and-development agency, Armscor, has confirmed a further sale of former South African Air Force (SAAF) aircraft to the Brazilian Air Force (FAB).
Such surplus South African military equip-ment is marketed and sold by Armscor’s defence-materiel disposal division.
The value of this contract has not been revealed, but it involved the sale of three Atlas Impala II light attack aircraft.
The SAAF officially approved the sale back in December and the three Impalas were subsequently flown to Brazil in a FAB C-130 Hercules transport aircraft.
This is a follow-up to a sale concluded in 2004 (see Engineering News November 19, 2004).
In that deal, the FAB bought all surplus Impala spares then available for sale, plus a number of almost complete Impala I and II aircraft, these to be used to support Brazil’s version of the Impala, the Xavante.
