Pakistan and South Africa yesterday reinforced co-operation in the areas of defence and military training, following an official visit to Pakistan by Deputy Defence Minister Mluleki George.
This is happening even though SA has established special trade relations with Pakistan’s political rival, India, and Brazil to stimulate development outside western markets.
Pakistani Defence Minister Rao Sikandar Iqbal and George met in the garrison town of Rawalpindi yesterday to hammer out an agreement.
A joint statement said Iqbal briefed George on the capability and potential of the Pakistani defence industry. Discussions also touched on the production of equipment including lightweight aircraft, tanks, naval frigates and armoured personnel carriers.
