Pakistan test-fires Babar cruise missile

Pakistan today test-fired its 500 km range Babar cruise missile, which is capable of carrying a nuclear warhead. Pakistani officials claimed the missile can carry any type of warhead.

The missile was first tested in August last year. Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf and senior officials watched the test-firing.

While Pakistan claims that the missile is indeginous, defence experts believe it is a derivative of the Chinese HN-1 cruise missile. This may very well be the case given the close links of the Pakistani nuclear and ballistic missile program's with the Chinese programs.
