Turkish Aerospace Industries (TAI) has chosen the Light Helicopter Turbine Engine Company’s (LHTEC) CTS800 turboshaft as the powerplant for Turkey’s twin-engine indigenous utility helicopter program.
The decision, announced at the Paris Air Show on June 16, represents the first commercial use of the 1,360-1,700 shp T800 engine.
The engine was designed primarily for use in the Sikorsky Boeing RAH-66 Comanche scout helicopter, but has more recently been adopted for use in the AgustaWestland AW159 Wildcat and the Super Lynx Mk300 helicopters.
