Sixth Type 052D destroyer leaves Jiangnan Shipyard

The Nanjing, China's sixth Type 052D guided-missile destroyer has recently left Jiangnan Shipyard on Shanghai's Changxing island to be fitted with electronic, radar and weapon systems, ahead of its expected deployment to the North Sea Fleet of the People's Liberation Army Navy in 2017, according to our sister newspaper, Want Daily.

Equipped with active electronically scanned array radar, the Type 052D destroyer is currently China's most powerful surface combat vessel. It is referred as the Chinese Aegis because it has similar capabilities to the United States' Arleigh Burke-class destroyer.

China has deployed two of its Type 052C guided-missile destroyers to the East Sea Fleet and another two to the South Sea Fleet.
