Royal Australian Navy’s biggest warship enters Sydney Harbour

HMAS CanberraThe Royal Australian Navy’s biggest ever warship, the Helicopter Landing Dock (amphibious assault ships) known as ‘Nuship Canberra’, steamed through Sydney Heads and into her home port for the first time at noon today.

The 27,000-tonne, 230-metre-long behemoth has been conducting sea trials off the NSW coast and docked at her home port of Fleet Base East at Garden Island soon after entering the harbour.

The ship is technically still owned by ber buyer, the Defence Materiel Organisation (DMO) and won’t be handed to the Navy for commissioning until final trials have been concluded later this year.
