French firm pitches ‘off-the-shelf’ frigate as AG shipbuilding report looms

Fremm class frigateA major French shipbuilder is prepared to offer Canada its “off-the-shelf” design to replace the country’s ageing destroyers and frigates.

At a dinner at the Chateau Laurier in Ottawa Wednesday night, French naval defence company DCNS presented its plan to replace Canada’s surface combat fleet.

DCNS Chairman and CEO Patrick Boissier said the already-designed French multi-mission frigate, also known as FREMM, is the best option for Canada’s plan to build 15 new service combatants. The company prides itself on the fact that it has designed customized warships for more than 30 countries.
