The two newest destroyers will be named for a highly decorated soldier-turned-senator and a former Navy secretary, the Navy’s top civilian announced Thursday.
DDG 117 will be named the USS Paul Ignatius for the former defense official, who was a Navy secretary and an assistant defense secretary in the Johnson administration.
And the next destroyer built will be named for Daniel Inouye, a Japanese-American who fought in World War II and later received the Medal of Honor for storming a machine gun nest, an attack that cost him his right arm.
