The Ministry of National Defence has launched efforts to study the feasibility of building indigenous submarines, according to a statement released yesterday.The ministry "is accurately reviewing the relevant plans and budgets" for a four-year project it brought to the National Defence Industrial Development Foundation late last year, based on a resolution by the Legislative Yuan that Taiwan should build its own submarines, the statement said.
Under the project, research will be conducted in four major fields - design, equipment acquisition, building capability and testing, the ministry said.
