Korean defense department opts for Anglo-Italian maritime helicopter over US model

AW159 Lynx Wildcat |The British-Italian helicopter company AgustaWestland’s Wildcat (AW159) maritime helicopter, designed to detect and destroy ships and submarines, will be purchased by the South Korean Defense Department instead of US manufactured alternatives.

Attention has now turned to what effect the selection of the European option will have on this year’s choice of next generation jet fighter and attack helicopter.

Defense Minister Kim Kwan-jin chaired the Defense Acquisition Program Administration (DAPA), which made the decision.
