Importance of Gibraltar to Royal Navy

Last weekend, Gibraltar welcomed the operational spearhead of the Royal Navy, the ready force task group.

The 2 day visit by HM ships Bulwark, Montrose, Monmouth, RFA Mounts Bay and Anvil Point and their embarked air group and lead CDO group, underlined the importance of providing support to deployed operations hundreds of miles from base port.

Of course, the Royal Navy takes great pride in being able to sustain itself for long periods at sea without external assistance, replenishing stores and fuel via ships of the royal fleet auxiliary.
