Australian defence fears even more cuts to forces

F-35 Lightning II |There is concern in Defence that the force or the department that backs it will be targeted for more severe cuts as the government battles to balance its books.

A particular concern is the possibility of cuts in the size of the army.

Australian Defence Force deployments in East Timor and the Solomons end next year, and troops in Afghanistan will be reduced over the next two years during the handover of responsibility for security to Afghan authorities in Oruzgan province, with troops to return by the end of 2014.
