Taiwan to build prototype missile frigate

[Lung Teh Shipbuilding Co.]A local shipbuilding company has been commissioned to build a prototype missile frigate for Taiwan, as part of the country's policy to construct its own warships, the Navy confirmed Tuesday.

The Navy will work closely with the contractor, Lung Teh Shipbuilding Co., to build a 450-ton prototype frigate in the first such project between the two sides, said Cap. Chu Hsu-min.

The project is scheduled to be completed at the end of 2014, Chu said at a news conference.
