Lockheed Starts SDD Testing On Canes Bid

USS Leyte Gulf (Ticonderoga-class)Lockheed Martin recently started informal system development and demonstration testing for the U.S. Navy’s proposed Consolidated Afloat Networks and Enterprise Services (Canes) program, and is on track for formal tests later this month to complete the SDD contract by December, the company says.

Canes is designed to consolidate and enhance five shipboard legacy network programs, providing the common computing environment for command, control, communications, computers and intelligence applications now controlled by several existing systems.

The primary goal of the Canes program, the Navy says, is to build a secure shipboard network required for naval and joint operations.
