India, Russia work on hypersonic stealth cruise missile

Brahmos II (hypersonic cruise missile)A number of Indian and Russian companies are working to develop a hypersonic version of BrahMos stealth cruise missile which can fly at almost seven times the speed of sound, a senior official said on Sunday.

"For this version, a new engine has to be developed, as also new materials to withstand high temperature and vibrations.

They have got to be on board with supportive electronic systems," Dr. A. Sivathanu Pillai, the chief of BrahMos Aerospace, told the media in the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu.
