N Korea threat boosts US ties

Defence Minister Stephen SmithAustralia is working with the US on ways to destroy incoming ballistic missiles because of the possibility of North Korea developing a missile that could reach Australia, Defence Minister Stephen Smith says.

"On some calculations, if successful, North Korean ballistic missile delivery systems, at their outer reach, could reach Australia," he told The Australian.

"There's an obvious national security interest of our own."
