China to Build Naval Base Housing Aircraft Carriers

China is reportedly planning to build a naval base that can house aircraft carriers.

Citing military experts Wednesday. Hong Kong's Mingpao newspaper said that the base will be built in the city of Sanya in Hainan Province, and it will be home to least two aircraft carriers, including china's recently launched carrier Varyag.

The new plan is expected to increase the likelihood of conflicts between China and several Southeast Asian nations as the base will be located in the South China Sea, where a number of territorial disputes rumble on.

China currently operates three fleets in the North, East and South seas.
