USS Mississippi to be commissioned in Gulfport

USS MississippiThe $2 billion USS Mississippi submarine will be commissioned in the Gulfport Small Craft Harbor in May, Mayor George Schloegel said Tuesday.

The mayor announced at a meeting of the Gulfport Business Club that the Navy had chosen the site.

Mississippi submarine veterans, who had been lobbying the Navy to commission the Virginia-class sub here, welcomed the news.
