Russia Plans Two More Bulava Missile Trials in 2011
Russia's Bulava ballistic missile is slated to be fired from the Yuri Dolgoruky submarine in two additional 2011 trials, one of which would involve dual launches of the nuclear-capable weapon, ITAR-Tass reported on Friday (see GSN, July 1).
Moscow would place both the Bulava and its carrier vessel on active duty under the Russian navy if the test involving two missiles unfolds as planned, a government source said.
A June trial flight of the weapon marked its 15th launch and its eighth test that did not end in failure.
