Japan protests Chinese chopper buzzing its warship

Murasame class destroyerJapan protested Tuesday after a Chinese helicopter the previous day staged a close fly-by of one of its destroyers near gas fields in the East China Sea that are claimed by both sides.

Defence Minister Toshimi Kitazawa called Monday's aerial manoeuvre "an extremely dangerous act", saying Tokyo had protested to Beijing over the latest in a series of tense confrontations between the Asian giants.

"The Japanese government has asked (China) through diplomatic channels to prevent accidental collisions and other unforeseen incidents," he said.
