MoD accused of covering up controversial BAE aircraft carrier deal worth £5.2billion

Queen Elizabeth classThe Ministry of Defence was accused on Thursday of covering up potentially embarrassing details of its controversial deal for two new £5.2billion aircraft carriers.

Financial information about the purchase of the 65,000-tonne warships was obscured with thick black ink when the contracts were finally published by officials.

But by redacting the costs from the 500 pages of documents, the MoD has shrouded in secrecy the exact sums for which the taxpayer could be liable.
