Indian Coast Guard Ship Vijit, the 2nd in the series of 90 meter Offshore Patrol Vessel (OPV) was commissioned at Goa on 11 Dec 10 in the presence of Vice Admiral Anil Chopra, AVSM, Director General Indian Coast Guard. ‘Vijit’ meaning “Winner or Victorious” is a projection of Indian Coast Guard’s will and commitment “To serve and protect” the maritime interest of the nation.
This 90 Mtrs OPV has been designed and built indigenously by M/s GSL and is fitted with most advanced navigation and communication equipment, sensors and machineries by means of state-of-the-art technology.

The United States could learn a thing or two from India right now. After the Mumbai attack, India made a commitment to increase the size of its Coast Guard. This is a sensible idea because the defense of coastal waters is probably the most important mission any nation has. We need to drastically increase the size of our Coast Guard here in the United States, given all of the many missions that are constantly being heaped on it. Hopefully, the United States will NOT have to suffer its own Mumbai attack before learning what the Indians have already learned, that a strong Coast Guard is essential to the survival of any maritime nation.
