France's military has received its first contingent of the new Mamba ground-air medium-range missile systems.
The new weaponry will first be deployed in a unit in the 04/950 Servance squadron at France's Luxeuil Air Base, Air et Cosmos reported Wednesday. It will replace the French air force's MIM-23 Hawk ground-air missile, in service for nearly 40 years.
The missile is being deployed operationally after extensive testing by the General Directorate for Weapons, the Mont-de-Marsan Air Force Proving Ground and the Avord Ground-Air Defense Training Center.
