Limited-capability Wedgetails on their way


Limited operations of the Boeing Wedgetail AEW&C aircraft are expected to start in Australia late in December with an aircraft equipped for domestic operations, while four fully equipped aircraft are expected to be delivered by the end of 2010.

According to Boeing Integrated Defence Systems, the first two aircraft for delivery to Australia will not have an operational Electronic Counter Measures (ECM) system.

The absence of ECM will prevent their operation in a war zone but they are able to train crews in the operation using their MESA radar.
