The RAF is losing more than 70 of its fleet of Eurofighter Typhoon aircraft.The service will buy 160 instead of the 232 planned, it was announced in Munich today at the contract-signing ceremony involving the four nations of the Nato Eurofighter Tornado Management Agency.
Britain signed up for a third and final tranche of Typhoons but agreed to buy 40 instead of 88. Britain ordered 55 in the first tranche and 89 in the second but 24 of these planes were immediately sold on to Saudi Arabia.
