Czechs to buy ammunition for Gripens in Germany

The Czech Defence Ministry Tuesday received the government's consent with the purchase of ammunition for the guns of Jas-39 Gripen fighters from Germany, cabinet spokeswoman Jana Bartosova told CTK.

The government also gave a go-ahead to the five-year extension of an agreement with the USA on the logistics support to the air-to-air missiles used by Gripens and the subsonic Czech-made L-159 combat planes, Bartosova said.

According to NATO plans, still unconfirmed by the Czech parliament, four Czech fighters are to protect air space above Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania for several months next year.
