U.S. Army equips first EADS copter

The U.S. Army said Monday it has equipped its first unit with the UH-72A "Lakota," a new helicopter made in Mississippi by EADS North America.

The Army said it received its first six Lakota light utility helicopters on May 22 and assigned them to the National Training Center Air Ambulance Detachment in Fort Irwin, Calif.

"This is a landmark event for Army Aviation because we are getting a much-needed aircraft to the field in record time," said Keith Roberson, deputy manager for the Army's helicopter program at the Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville.
