Tactical military satellites gain momentum

U.S. defense contractor Raytheon says it sees a growing demand for military satellites that can be launched on short notice for tactical purposes.

Raytheon Vice President Brian Arnold told the National Space Symposium in Colorado Springs Tuesday that there is both a need and a capability to provide "launch-on-demand" technologies that take far less time to develop and put into space than most current satellites.

As a result, he said, the so-called Responsive Space market is becoming a high priority for Raytheon.
