F-15 nears end of the line

The era of the F-15 moved one step closer to the end Friday with the transition of the East Coast Demo Team.

When the F-15 Eagle and F-22A Raptor took off from Langley Air Force Base on Friday afternoon, the Eagle maintained its title as headliner of the service's Hampton-based East Coast Demo Team.

When the two landed some 40 minutes later, the Raptor held the lead, putting the Air Force's newest, most expensive and most capable fighter jet one step closer to ending the era of the Eagle.

For 27 years, the Eagle has traveled throughout the eastern region of the country showing off its abilities at air shows - climbing into the skies quickly, completing 360-degree barrel rolls in mid-air and drawing a figure eight over awestruck crowds.
