Provincial Airlines wins US$100M contract for reconnaissance aircraft service

Provincial Airlines, a subsidiary of Provincial Aerospace Ltd., has won a $100-million-US contract to supply reconnaissance aircraft and services in the Netherlands Antilles and Aruba for 10 years.

The contract with the Netherlands government will add about 75 new full-time technical and professional jobs to Provincial's workforce, the company said Friday. The aircraft and crews will be used to save lives at sea, track down offenders on environmental, economic, and fisheries matters, and intercept drug transports in the Caribbean Sea.

With about 600 employees, privately owned Provincial Aerospace is one of the largest companies in Newfoundland and Labrador. The St. John's-based aerospace and defence contracting company has over 25 years' experience in air reconnaissance operations.

As well as its headquarters in St. John's, which comprises four facilities, the company has bases in Goose Bay, N.L., Halifax and Comox, B.C., and stations at 14 airports across the country.
