A NEW radar to protect future warship fleets from missiles and other air attacks is due to arrive at Eskmeals firing range tomorrow.
Sampson will be tested for three years at Eskmeals
The distinctive 19ft 5ins high and 15ft 3ins wide Sampson radar dome started its delicate road journey with a police escort from a BAE site on the Isle of Wight on Tuesday.
It will eventually be fitted to the first of the new Type 45 destroyers being built for the Royal Navy by BAE Systems in Scotland, HMS Daring.
The state-of-the-art radar is being fitted on a specially constructed tower at Eskmeals to simulate the height it will be mounted on a Type 45 destroyer. Once installed at Eskmeals, Sampson will be visible across the surrounding countryside.
