Following up the landmark nuclear agreement with India, the US has offered explicit guarantees of reliable future military supplies in a clear indication that there is now more to ties than energy security and fair trade.
In an extraordinary mea culpa, the Pentagon said it was aware of past Indian concerns about reliability of US arms supply. There is now a clearer understanding between the two sides of converging strategic interests, and mutual respect for each others priorities, it said.
"We are committed to addressing this priority of India... the US intends to be a reliable partner. It is in the US interest to do so," Washington's defense establishment assured in a candid statement that follows guarantees of nuclear fuel supply in return for perpetual safeguards on its civilian nuclear reactors.
