USS John F. Kennedy May Be Saved

JACKSONVILLE, FL -- The U.S. House passed new legislation Monday morning to keep the Navy's aircraft carrier fleet at 12, which means the USS John F. Kennedy may not be mothballed next year.

U.S. Senator Bill Nelson says it's all but a done deal and calls the passage in the House a huge victory.

"It's a win for Jacksonville and a win for the country."

He says this means a great deal and not just for Jacksonville.

"It also means a great deal for the country because in times of war, you don't want to be cutting your carrier fleet."

It was year ago when there was word the Kennedy could be decommissioned to save money and the fleet reduced to 11 aircraft carriers.
