Russian Northern Fleet Nuclear Subs Fire Cruise Missiles in Barents Sea

Project 949A (Antey) Oscar II class SSNRussian nuclear submarines from the Northern Fleet on Thursday fired cruise missiles as part of drills in the Barents Sea, the Russian Defense Ministry’s Northern Fleet press service head said Thursday.

"During military exercises today from various forces from the Northern Fleet, Antei-class nuclear submarines fired cruise missiles from a submersed position at targets in the Barents Sea," Capt. 1st Rank Vadim Serga told journalists.

He added that the warships participating in the drills had also carried out successful strikes, with all the missiles fired making contact with their surface targets.
