Military fighter jet crashes on night mission: Fears for pilot of F 16 after it hit the ground during training flight in Arizona

F-16 Fighting FalconWitness Angel Ortega described hearing a loud explosion that he initially thought was thunder before he saw the smoke.

Cochise County Sheriff's Department spokeswoman Carol Capas told the Arizona Daily Star that the plane ruptured a gas line and sparked a fire, which 'is almost out.'

Once the flames are extinguished, officials will be able to assess the damage.
