HMCS Algonquin retires from service


The Royal Canadian Navy bid farewell to one of its destroyers today, after 41 years of service.

HMCS Algonquin, an Iroquois class destroyer, was “paid off” in the navy tradition today at CFB Esquimalt with many sailors and officers on hand to share in the celebration.

The ship’s ensign, naval jack and commissioning pennant were hauled down as the Naden Band played.
