New Captain for the Queen

Lieutenant Commander Thomas Vusi MahlanguThe South African Navy's third Type 209 diesel-electric submarine, SAS Queen Modjadji I, received a new Officer Commanding on Wednesday.

During the Change of Command Parade held alongside the submarine in Naval Base Simon’s Town, Commander Handsome Thamsanqa Matsane, who has been at the helm of the submarine since April 2012, handed over command to Lieutenant Commander Thomas Vusi Mahlangu.

This is the first time an African submarine commander has handed over command to another African.
