USS Gary returns to San Diego from final voyage
The guided-missile frigate USS Gary returned home to San Diego Friday morning following a nearly seven-month deployment to Central America.
When the warship tied up at Naval Base San Diego at about 9:20 a.m., the crowd waiting to greet crew members let out a cheer.
The voyage is the final one for the Gary, which will be decommissioned. The Navy is phasing out frigates in favor of the new littoral combat ships — vessels designed for fighting in coastal waters.
