Diver from Laconia helps aircraft carrier return to sea

USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN+71)Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS Theodore Roosevelt is now back at sea thanks to some assistance from a U.S. Navy underwater team that included a diver from Laconia.

Navy Diver 1st Class Mike Bayer of Laconia was part of a crew that helped clean out the intake of the aircraft carrier earlier this week after it had become clogged by sea water teeming with a marine organism called Bryozoa.

The clogged intake prevented the USS Roosevelt from leaving Naval Air Station Norfolk in Virginia on Monday as scheduled.
