US reaffirms Apache delivery to Egypt

AH-64E ApacheThe United States has reaffirmed its commitment to supply Egypt with 10 Boeing AH-64 Apache attack helicopters that have been withheld since the military took control of the country in July 2013.

With the US government having indicated in April that it would now deliver the helicopters, Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel confirmed the decision during a meeting with Egyptian Minister of Defense Colonel General Sedki Sobhy, the US Department of Defense (DoD) announced on 20 September.

"The US DoD announced in April 2014 that it had lifted suspension of the delivery of the Apache helicopters in support of counter-terrorism operations in the Sinai. Following a June 2014 meeting with now-President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, US Secretary of State John Kerry announced that delivery of the 10 Apache helicopters would take place without further delay," it said.
