French Planes Start Recon Mission Over Iraq

Dassault RafaleFrench planes have begun their reconnaissance missions over Iraq on Monday in support of the United States campaign against the Islamic State insurgent group.

An AFP journalist reported seeing two French Ragale fighter jets take off from the Al-Dhafra base in the United Arab Emirates.

French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian had already announced from the base that the “first reconnaissance flights” would fly over Iraq “in agreement with the Iraqi and Emirati authorities.”
