Enström: Sweden Must Keep Sub-building Know-how

Swedish Defense Minister Karin EnströmSweden’s parliament, the Riksdag, has endorsed a government plan to increase defense spending by more than 10 percent in 2015-2024.

To a great degree, this level of investment is in response to regional tensions over Russian aggression in Ukraine, and Sweden’s need to strengthen its military organization and defense capability, with an emphasis on reinforcing its presence in the Baltic.

The crisis in Ukraine also has re-opened debate on Sweden’s traditional position of military neutrality and its long-term relationship with NATO.
