Carrier Abraham Lincoln marks overhaul milestone

USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN 72) Upper-Level StructureThe aircraft carrier Abraham Lincoln is marking a milestone as part of its refueling and complex overhaul at a shipyard in Newport News.

Huntington Ingalls Industries says shipbuilders recently placed a new upper-level structure on top of the nuclear-powered aircraft carrier's island, which is similar to an airport control tower.

The structure will contain the ship's primary flight control systems when outfitted and serves as the platform for many of its various radars and antenna systems.
