First outing on board warship for upgraded aircraft

Merlin Mark 2A landmark in Naval aviation has been celebrated as the first helicopter of a recently upgraded fleet took its place on a warship for the first time.

The Merlin Mark 2, part of 829 Naval Air Squadron at RNAS Culdrose, near Helston, has joined HMS Lancaster on deployment.

It is the first time that one of the aircraft, which have been subject to a £750million technology upgrade, will be embarked on a type 23 frigate.
