Nuclear submarine facilities in Russia's Far East to be completed by year end: ministry


Facilities for new nuclear submarines in Russia's Pacific coast will be completed by the end of 2014, the Defense Ministry said Monday.

Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu was told during an inspection of the Rybachy submarine base in Kamchatka Peninsula that the construction of docking and maintenance facilities for the new submarines would be completed by the end of the year, it said.

Shoigu inspected the naval base in preparation for the arrival of the two new Borey-class strategic missile submarines -- the Alexander Nevsky and Vladimir Monomakh, the ministry said.
