MoD biggest equipment deals are £6.1bn over budget and running woefully late

Queen Elizabeth-class aircraft carrierThe Ministry of Defence's biggest equipment projects are £6.1billion over budget and woefully late, a devastating report reveals today.

The cost of Britain's aircraft carriers, fighter jets, submarines and other state-of-the-art kit has soared a staggering 12.3 per cent since they were ordered, the National Audit Office said.

The spending watchdog's Major Projects Report for 2012-13 said the delivery timetable for the 11 largest procurement programmes had slipped by a total of more than 25 years.
