British pilots, maintainers praise F-35B performance onboard the USS Wasp


The United Kingdom’s future fighter aircraft, the Lockheed Martin F-35B, earned strong praise for its performance from British pilots and maintainers during recent developmental testing held onboard the USS Wasp.

“Just flying F-35 is the highlight of my career, so being able to come to the USS Wasp and fly F-35 from an LHD class Marine ship is staggering, “said Royal Air Force Sqdn. Ldr. Jim Schofield. “I’m very excited about what [the F-35] is going to bring the U.K. and all the partner nations in terms of capability.”

Royal Navy maintainer Lt. Cdr. Robin Trewinnard-Boyle added, “For the U.K., this is the future of our aviation…The aircraft is performing fantastically out at sea.
