Astute submarine to be named today

Astute class submarineThe third in a series of nuclear-powered submarines built in Barrow shipyard will be officially named today.

A naming ceremony for Artful, boat three in the Astute class programme, will take place in Devonshire Dock Hall at BAE Systems. The traditional occasion marks the end of Artful’s build programme.

In a proud moment for Ulverston Victoria High School, its Big Band will lead the celebration, which will
be enjoyed by invited guests – including Furness school children, members of BAE Systems staff and selected guests from the Royal Navy and the Ministry of Defence.
